Yerba Mate Tasting: maa·tay
Join Finn Trondson (founder of maa·tay) for a hands-on yerba mate tasting at Multimodal. This guided session is an approachable introduction to mate — a naturally caffeinated South American beverage traditionally shared in circle.
We’ll start with a quick overview of the leaf’s history and why it’s such a daily ritual. Then Finn will walk through how to prepare mate step-by-step (gear, technique, and common beginner mistakes) before moving into a guided tasting that highlights how different processing methods influence flavor, aroma, and finish.
All are welcome. Free to attend.
Excellence in Roasting: Amaris Gutierrez-Ray
Multimodal is proud to present a new series that celebrates Excellence in the field of Roasting.
Amaris started at Joe Coffee Company in 2015 as a part-time barista at our Pro Shop. In 2016, she joined our roasting team as a Production Roaster, bringing some years of roasting and management experience, and quickly moved into the Director of Roasting position. She established herself in the larger coffee community by creating the Women in Coffee Project. In recent years, she co-founded TWICE, Team Women in Coffee Exchange, a small organization focused on applying a gender lens to sensory education, primarily for coffee producers.
In her “downtime” from work at Joe, Amaris puts her academic skills to use galvanizing the coffee community by cultivating transparency and providing forums for women to share the stories and experiences that would otherwise be obscured by innate and inequitable gender dynamics.”
This is a ticketed event. Tickets can be purchased at the door for $10. All proceeds for the event will go to TWICE.

Green Forums: Finca Gosén
Nestled in the fertile highlands of Santa Rosa, Guatemala, Finca Gosén is more than a coffee farm — it is a sanctuary of faith, family, and stewardship. With over 70% of the land preserved as forests and watersheds, Gosén safeguards the rivers that sustain both its crops and its neighboring communities.
At the heart of this mission is Doña Marta José, a woman of remarkable vision who, alongside her husband Wilson, leads the farm under the direction of God. Marta has blended innovation with tradition — cultivating award-winning varietals like the H1 Hybrid while honoring the heritage of Bourbon and Geisha.
From this soil and spirit emerges Café Pepita, the flagship coffee of Finca Gosén — a brand that brings the farm’s story, values, and flavors directly to the cup.
Under Marta’s leadership, Gosén has become a beacon for women-led, regenerative farming in Guatemala. Every bean harvested is a reflection of her devotion: strong like coffee, sweet like honey, and deeply rooted in the land she protects.

Green Forums: Incolpex
Who is Incolpex?. It`s a specialty coffee exporter created by Alejandro Ariza, a 29-year-old coffee grower who represents the farm (La Argelia) of my parents, Holmes Ariza and Nancy Guevara. Located in Inzá, Cauca, at an altitude between 1,640 and 2,000 MASL, surrounded by volcanoes, Paramos, an Andean forest full of culture and history that we feel from its good winds. The three volcanoes, Huila, Sotara, and Purace, contribute to our sandy loam soils and give our coffee, through its terroir, its differential attributes compared to other departments. Our coffees are predominantly sweet, aromatic, with red and yellow fruits, medium and silky bodies, bright or sharp acidity, and perfect processing to make the coffee versatile in all preparation methods. This family (16-40 Inzá Coffee) project also includes 3.5 hectares of forest protection, preserving legendary birds and trees, and organic fertilizer to generate sustainable coffee impact from planting to cup.
The varieties we will showcase will be our next May harvest:
Argelia Classic Wash (Castillo - Caturra) 83.5-84
Argelia Premium (Castillo - Caturra) 84.5-85.5
Sudán Rume Wash
Sudán Rume Honey
Pink Bourbon
Bourbon Cider
Maragogipe Honey
